Sustainability is one of our core values and we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices.

Here’s how we’re taking action to reduce our environmental impact:  

ONE TREE PLANTED INITIATIVE

As part of our sustainability efforts to contribute to a greener planet, we’ve partnered with Ecologi to plant one tree for every purchase $50+ made at Alegra.

 

Ecologi x Alegra

 

Ecologi works alongside reforestation partners to turn our funding into trees planted all around the world. These partners decide when to plant the trees, with local weather as the key determinant. When we fund trees through Ecologi, they will always be planted. The trees our community funds will provide a wide range of benefits to local people and biodiversity. These benefits include food, shelter, and ecosystem services such as regulating water levels, and creating cooler, wetter microclimates in places where the climate is getting hotter and drier. The benefits of trees are truly incredible! 

 

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

We are so and very proud to offer sustainable packaging solutions! The type of packaging used will depend on the product(s) and size of your order. Here are our different types of packaging & materials:

  • Mailers

Our mailers and bubble mailers from Hero Packaging are not only super cute in pink (!), but also 100% compostable. Unlike traditional mailers, these are NOT made from plastic, but mostly plant-based materials such as PLA and a certified PBAT (a fancy way of saying corn starch and bonding agents).

 

 

How to use our HEROPACK mailers: You can use your mailer again, just cut along the line on the flap and re-use it with the second adhesive strip (the white strip is not compostable and we ask that you please place in the recycling bin). Once the mailer has been used up, the last person to use it can cut the mailer up and put it in their home-compost bin (note, these can't be placed in the recycling bin).

 

 

Once composted properly, the HEROPACKs will start to break down and turn into fertilizer in about 90-120 days. These compostable mailers have international certifications for being Home Compostable (EN13432) and Commercially Compostable (EN13432), which means they can be composted in both industrial and home composting facilities. Voilá!

  • Biodegradable Packaging Tape

    The packaging tape used at Alegra is eco-friendly and 100% biodegradable.

    • Kraft Paper Sheets

      All Kraft paper sheets that we use are 100% recycled. You can also reuse or recycle them. 

      • Ugly Box Campaign

        Please note that we’re also part of the “Ugly Box” campaign, which means you might receive a not-so-pretty cardboard box (or other type of packaging product) from us. Although we are all about aesthetically-pleasing objects, at Alegra we try as much as possible to reuse old packaging, aiming to reduce our environmental impact by ceasing any unnecessary purchase & disposal of packaging products.

        All new cardboard boxes are 100% recyclable and we encourage you to continue the “Ugly Box” movement by sending forward your next box!
